Wix: Free and easily customizable website and blog builder with hundreds of professional-looking templates; opt for a pay plan or buy a domain if you want more applications, but the free version is very good and intuitive

Weebly: Free to use and offers a number of simple templates, this drag-and-drop website builder is easy for students to use and edits like MS Word.

WordPress: Free blogging and web-building platform that is used across NCSU websites. No longer just a blogging platform, WordPress can be used to build websites and offers customizable templates for users.

 

 


tumblr

 

Tumblr: Although it is a primarily a social blogging platform, Tumblr is a free and customizable webspace that can easily incorporate images and text as well as provide a space for a curation of web items or class discussion.

GoogleSites: Since we use Google Apps across NCSU for free, it may be useful to have students build their websites, portfolios, or pages on Google Sites. Although it is free and there are simple templates, there may be a bit of a learning curve when navigating the application.

Drupal: Not only a blogging platform, Drupal is also a Content Management System. Not recommended for beginning bloggers, but students with a knowledge of coding may enjoy building their sites from the ground up with this platform.

Squarespace: Very popular business website builder that provides professional-looking websites with customer-service support and customizable options. Squarespace offers a 14-day free trial with membership options after that including domain name ownership.

Blogger: One of the easiest blogging platform to use for beginners. Simple design where users can add text, images, and publish quickly or add widgets and customize through html. Blogger is a Google service and will require a Google Account.
